How Strong is Your Digital Immigrant Accent?
I'm guessing all of us have heard the terms, digital immigrant and digital native. Digital immigrant usually refers to anyone who didn't grow up in the digital landscape. By virtue of my "experience and maturity", I would be called a digital immigrant. Computers weren't part of the world of education until I had already started my career in education. The Internet came much later. CD's and DVD's weren't available in stores. Digital natives on the other hand are those who grew up with computers, cell phones, video games and the Internet. However, there are those who would argue with using the terms digital immigrants and natives to describe people based solely on age. In essence, they say, it's really less about when you were born and more about how you engage in our digital world today. Where do you think you fit? Are you a digital immigrant or a digital native? Take this little quiz and grade yourself! If you're brave enough, share your score by using the comment feature. I scored myself in the middle. There's still much I need to learn.
